The 2011/2012 Fall Season brought us at least 43 shows that I can remember, just 17 of which were cancelled. Some of these shows had sophomore slumps, some of them carried on the great work from their freshmen year. Some were cancelled, some were renewed.
Now fast forward to the 2012/2013 Fall Season, we had 46 new shows, and at least 27 of them were cancelled. Many of the cancellations came early on in the shows runs, while some were cancelled at the end of their season. So basically a year on, and we got around the same number of shows, and quite a few more cancellations.
Below is the final tally of which 2012/13 new shows were cancelled, renewed, or are still in limbo.
Made In Jersey, Animal Practice, Partners, 666 Park Avenue, Last Resort, Mockingbird Lane, Next Caller, Wedding Band, How to Live with your Parents, Zero Hour, the Following, Red Widow, Do No Harm, Friend Me, 1600 Penn, Family Tools, Golden Boy, Deception, Save Me, The New Normal, Emily Owens, MD, Guys with Kids, Mob Doctor, Ben and Kate, Vegas, Go On, and Malibu Country
Orphan Black, Bates Motel, The Americans, Rectify, Hannibal, Da Vinci’s Demons, Bates Motel, Carrie Diaries, Chicago Fire, Beauty and the Beast, The Neighbors, Elementary, Revolution, Arrow, The Mindy Project, Nashville and Seed
The Goodwin Games and Mistresses
I watched 25 of these shows, most of which I saw all the episodes that were put out. Some of them I wished weren’t cancelled, and some of them glad were cancelled. Out of the renewed episodes, I’m looking forward to what they have in store for them in the future, and two of them I won’t be continuing with.
Next season we have at least 51 new shows coming out, which I’m sure will grow around midseason. Will the continued trend of a growing number of shows being cancelled carry on this year, or will there be a change in the quality of shows this year leading to more of the freshmen shows sticking around?
